Day 1

Today is the first full day for Pastor Jimmy, Pastor Matt, and myself (Pastor Gilmore) in Seattle for a conference. The following is what I wrote over breakfast.

Hebrews 2:1 “…pay close attention to what we have heard…”

I am sitting in the breakfast area of a Holiday Inn Express. What difference a year makes. Last year, I came to Seattle with my wife and a friend from McAllen. The trip was very stressful because we were worried about our future. This trip is very different. I miss having Christie with me but the peace I have currently is great because knowing that God has us in a great place. I am not distracted but able to learn what God wants me to hear and I am excited.

I look across the breakfast area and see all the potential in the room. Though not everybody is a church planter there are many in this room. There is a bit of irony in the room though. Most Acts 29 churches are made up of church planters who have come to the conclusion they do not like the current established, denominational, traditional churches. A response to the established church is to go against the cultural norms, and in church planting that means how one dresses. Everybody in the room all have the cool trendy style, so instead of suits we wear shirts tucked out, jeans, and there is a lot of facial hair. The beauty of this room that is different from most conferences is the atmosphere of humility. Many of the guys here are desperate for wisdom from God, and are looking for a common ground because all are a little freaked out. The morning is going really good.

I also had a great discussion with Pastor Jimmy, as we talked about his detour to Portland Oregon. Let us just say that he learned the beauty of checking in on line.

I plan on filling you in on the week each day.
