Confession is like A Barbie Doll

“She Almost Glued A Barbie To My Face”! That’s what my son told us last night at dinner. My wife and I asked the kids to tell us things (Confess) that they have not ever shared that have bothered them. We shared they could say what was on their heart and we challenged them not to hold back. That they could let anything out and not get in trouble but to just be real and honest. So, my son’s confession was that it bothered him that he woke up earlier one morning to the image of his sister holding a Barbie Doll with super glue on it about to attached it to his face! His confession made us laugh and he thought it funny too, but, not at the time. We were unaware of this event. We did make our daughter own up to it and give a sincere apology with the intent of changing her mind about ever doing things like that further (of which she hasn’t since this event happened when she was much younger). Confession and repentance are good. They are God’s gifts to us. Open them up today and see what’s inside.

Today, why don’t you and I:

1. Take some time to make sure there are not some “hidden” or unattended to confessions in our heart.

Acknowledging our sins, being genuinely sorry, confessing, and repenting is a picture of a great intimate relationship with Christ. I think marriage in many ways is a reflection of the relationship between Christ and his bride, the church. Through a Christ centered marriage, confession or transparency brings greater intimacy in marriage. I think that this is the same in our relationship with our savior. When we confess our sins to Christ, we are of course forgiven, but what confession of this kind also causes is deeper intimacy with Christ. How can we turn from sin when an intimate relationship with Christ has not been ignited? Because of the cross of Christ we come into right standing with God, but how can a deeper relationship with Christ be ignited if we don’t confess our sins to him? How can we make progress in turning from our sin without confessing our sins to a brother or a sister in confidence (accountability)? God uses confession to create a more intimate relationship between He and the church (us) and he uses it as a method to propel us to turn away from it. Great blog pastor Thomas…there is so much to expand on this subject of confession. God bless you!
