Did you hear me cuss on Sunday? I did. I said the word “disciple”. Now, in your theology that may not be a cuss word but is it in your lifestyle? Do you call yourself a disciple? Do you think of yourself as a disciple? Or has the word lost so much meaning to us that we don’t even really think about it? Are we so preoccupied with attending church or believing in God or loosely using the word “Christian” as a label for anyone who is moral that we have lost the reality of the fact that Jesus call was to be a disciple not just a church attendee? Do we even know what Jesus meant when He called us to be disciples who become disciple makers? Jesus mandated conditions. Yes, there are conditions of true discipleship. I think the condition of these CONDITIONS is that they are in “bad condition”. If you read Luke 9:23;Luke 14:33; Luke 9:57-62; or Matthew 4:17-20 what do you hear?
Do you hear Jesus saying that:
1. Being a disciple means having a distinct character change that is so engaging it cannot be ignored!
2. Being a disciple means your life is about repentance.
3. Being a disciple is about leaving something for SOMEONE else!
4. Being a disciple is about OBEDIENCE to Jesus above all else.
5. Being a disciple is about IMITATING.
6. Being a disciple is about engaging in a PROCESS!
7. Being a disciple is about discipline. Thus, the spiritual disciplines are active components of everyday living! Hence, in the word
