Student Mission Trip Report

Hey Sanctuary Family! I know that its probably a day late and a dollar short, but I wanted to give you a final report on our McAllen Mission Trip.

We got home last night at around 6:30 pm. All 32 of us got home in one piece, though very tired and quite sun-burned! We spent Monday-Wednesday painting, putting up siding and building a restroom.

On Thursday AM, we went to a community center in Alamo, TX, where the students sorted shoes to give to impoverished children in the neighborhood. They removed the old, worn shoes from the children, picked out new ones for them, placed the new ones on their feet, then tied their shoes. It was a moving, fulfilling, touching time of ministry. They then did a Mexican aerobics class with the children and played games with them- and had a great time!

The students worked very hard and without complaint- they truly embodied what it means to give a cup of cold water in Jesus’ name. They served the down-trodden and marginalized with love and energy and personal sacrifice. They brought praise to our Father and fame to his Name, and all under the ministry of The Sanctuary Fellowship. You should all be proud of them!

Thanks to all of you who gave financially to allow them to go. Thanks to the parents for entrusting your precious children to us for this trip. Thanks to our God who allows us to touch others in his Name. Thanks to the Villanuevas, Liz Brown, Katherine Martinez, and the lovely and talented Mindi Sanders for giving a week of their time and for giving up a lot of sleep in order to be with our students for the week.

Now, some random thoughts from a long, fulfilling week:
Kelly= volleyball wizard!; Spencer is a HUGE Natasha Bedingfield fan; Alejandro!; Jimmy and Joe= BFF; teenagers can eat a LOT of pizza; apparently, there’s not a donut shop in all of the greater McAllen metro area; fountain drinks taste even better after a long, hot day outside; you can sleep 13 people in an area about 500 square feet; Andy likes to eat hats; and, finally, “Take it easy!”
