Worship Devo Part Deux

Started the day again today with our Worship Devotionals. This week we are reviewing our Worship Philosophy that was recently approved and added to our church doctrinal statement. Each of them is fascinating and reminds us of the value and importance of our corporate time of worship on Sundays.

Today the devotional focused on the word of God and how it will be the foundation for all that we do in our corporate worship. Seems to be fairly elementary, but I’m not so sure about that. I think we’ve used Scripture to bolster our opinions about what is good and bad in corporate worship but I’m not convinced that we’ve let Scripture actively inform us all of how we are to interact with each other and God in corporate worship.

Why is it important for our Sunday AM worship gatherings to conform to Scripture? Here are my thoughts on Psalm 119:49-56 in particular:

Because its in the Word that I find Christ revealed. I find the content of my hope there. I learn and know the details of God’s promises to me there. I understand the law of God from the Word. I learn about God’s comfort. I receive validation when I’m trying to live out God’s word even as the world would invalidate me. As I seek to worship God with all my life, I get the theme for my life song from the Word. When the night is dark, the Word provides light and direction.

My worship is shallow and superficial when its not based on and does not grow from God’s revealed Word. I want to personally and corporately worship and experience and know God as he has shown himself to us through the Bible.

I want the Bible to speak plainly and authoritatively to me and to our church body so that our worship can be pleasing, inviting and desirous to our Lord.

Praying for you for a rich day of worship of God from the Scriptures- today and Sunday when we’re together again.
