The Final 31 Days

“Time marches on.” I don’t know who originally said that, but it certainly has proven to be true. When I think about this, I think about an army, a large army, marching together in unison. Resolutely moving together in the direction and at the pace that they have been commanded. It is not easily deterred and none can stand in its path. It might move slowly and deliberately, but it moves without doubt or remorse.

2010 has been proof that time marches on. It’s been amazing to see and experience all that the Lord has done over the last 334 days. Babies have been born, more are on the way, children have graduated, loved ones have been buried, careers have been started and changed, couples have been married. So much life has been squeezed into this year already!

As the inexorable march of time continues (I’ve already lost 18 minutes thinking of and typing this blog!) we’ve got to get ready for the last 31 days of 2010. So much to do with Christmas and New Year’s approaching- they’ll be here before you know it!

Are you ready for these last 31 days? Are you prepared to use the time you’ve been given?

At the Sanctuary, we’re committed to spending these last 31 days honoring God and serving the hurting and the “least of these” that God has brought our way:
ANGEL TREE- We’ve adopted 4 families who will not have Christmas unless we provide it for them. Pick up gift tags on Sunday and generously share the love of Christ with them.
DEPELCHIN CHILDREN CENTER- we’re going to provide gifts for this home for children and teens who are abandoned, orphaned, in between foster homes, etc. Pick up your card with their needs this Sunday and bring the gifts to our Family Christmas Service on Dec. 19.
MORE THAN WORDS- we’re supporting Pastor Henry in Uganda as he needs to complete a school for orphans that is currently dilapidated and unsafe. We’re also supporting the Guidrys, a family in our church that needs help for a son that is currently at Teen Challenge to get his life turned around.

In addition to all of that, we are making the most of our time here in Fort Bend county. We regularly minister to hurting families, needy individuals, the down and out.

Time marches on and 2010 has almost marched out of our lives forever. Let’s finish the final 31 days of this year strong, giving generously to spread the good news of a loving and able God who is with us. Let’s make Christmas about more than just the words “merry Christmas” by supporting those who have no support. Master the time and the days- don’t let time be your master!

“Be careful then how you live- not as unwise, but wise, making the most of every opportunity because the days are evil.” Eph. 5:15-16
