Uganda day 4: Final ministry day

This blog is going to be short and sweet. It is our last day in Jinja, and tomorrow we will leave at 4:00 am for Marchisan Falls. So, I am going to try and get to bed a bit early. This may also be our last blog for a while, as I am certain that we will not have Internet connection at the next place we are going. We MAY be able to update Saturday night but no guarantees.

Today was awesome! We ran a VBS for the youngest kids at the primary school behind Henry’s church. We had them set up in four stations where they heard a Bible story about Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection, did a craft, sang some songs, and learned how to play “Red Rover”. It was awesome!

As the VBS wound down, the rally team began to show up at the church. We had initially planned on evangelizing throughout Henry’s village, but as they say “this is Africa” and plans change quickly. We ended up working with the rally team and teaching them our Bible stories. We gave them all of the props that we had made and purchased so that they could do the stories long after we have come home. They caught on VERY quickly, and it became obvious that many of them were natural actors. It was GREAT!! I am excited to hear the stories that come out of them using these dramas to communicate God’s Word.

As we finished up, it was an emotional goodbye… Although we had only spent three days with them, we had bonded quickly. It is amazing how serving in that way will draw a team together. They asked us when we would be coming back to visit them, and made us promise that it wouldn’t be too long. I know that our team has a deep desire to see the rally team again next year.

For a grand finale, our team went to one of the markets in the city. A trip to Africa would not be complete unless half your team purchased drums, tribal spears, authentic African shirts, and jewelry… So that’s what we did. It will be interesting to see how these things fare on the trip home. We just need to remember to check the spear in our luggage…

if you are keeping up with us, please continue to pray. Tomorrow, we will have an eight hour drive to the game park. This is less than pleasurable on roads like these… Pray for safety as we drive, as well as peaceful spirits with one another.

We are looking forward to seeing you all in a few days!

In HIM,

pastor matt
