Matt Prine, Leadership Pastor
Matt was born in 1981 in Fort Worth Texas. He was raised in a Christian home
where he attended a Disciples of Christ church regularly and was even
baptized with all of the other 6th graders… Although Matt attended church
and participated in the ordinances, he had no idea what it meant to truly
know God and have a relationship with Him. As a result, Matt slowly withdrew
from church and the idea of seeking a relationship with the Lord.
When Matt entered high school, he developed a hard heart towards the church,
Christians, and Christ. In an attempt to gain shock value and rebel against
his family, Matt began to profess to be an atheist.
Although he could not validate any of his so called “beliefs” or lack
thereof, Matt held tightly to the assertion that there was no god or higher
power. This atheistic mentality persisted all through high school and into
college. Keeping in step with his degree plans of Marine Biology and Marine
Fisheries, Matt was a huge supporter of Darwinian Evolution and a humanistic
mindset.
When Matt was about to enter his last year at Texas A&M University at
Galveston, he was radically saved. After a night of living like there was no
God, Matt was hit with the weight of his sin. Alone in his room, Matt
realized that he was broken and that this brokenness would lead him nowhere
but to destruction. In that moment, Jesus opened Matt’s eyes to His power
and grace. He drew Matt into Himself and in an instant redeemed him from the
penalty of death that was so rightly due.
After meeting Jesus, Matt’s life took a direction that he never would have
imagined. He started having desires to be around other Christ followers,
read the Bible, sing songs of worship to Jesus, and repent of sin. As soon
as he was able, Matt connected with a group called Sea Aggies for Christ
where he met some guys who spurred him on to further growth. They even
planted the crazy idea in his head that being a pastor would be a wildly
cool thing to do.
In 2005 when Matt graduated with a B.S. in Marine Biology and a B.S. in
Marine Fisheries, he had surrendered to the idea that he was going to serve
the Lord anyway that he could. He applied to seminary on faith, and was
accepted. Shortly thereafter in 2006, Matt accepted his first
(part-time) position as a college pastor. Although he knew nothing about
ministry, the Lord grew Matt and used him despite his glaring flaws and
ignorance.
Very soon after Matt became a college pastor, he met an amazing and
beautiful woman who would become his wife in 2008. Cammy was and still is
one of the biggest sources of grace in Matt’s life. Together, Matt and Cammy
have loved college students, traveled to Africa (twice) to carry the Light
of Christ into darkness, encouraged middle and high school students to reach
their campuses for the Kingdom, and loved a little pseudo-Labrador named
Grace more than most people love their own children!
Being a part of the Sanctuary Fellowship is a calling that the Lord Himself
has placed on Matt and Cammy’s life. They are absolutely thrilled to be a
part of a redemptive community of Christ-followers who are passionately
focused on the Cross, eager to love those around themselves, and willing to
give whatever it takes to make much of Jesus.
They are so thankful to the Lord for His provision of such amazing people
that comprise the Sanctuary.
